I’ve heard that they have a bad name and that other dogs can be just as dangerous but I’ve never heard of somebody’s child getting mauled and killed by a golden retriever and I don’t understand why people risk pit bulls.

My mom has a rescue pit bull and has said that she is very sweet, but just doesn’t understand that the dog can’t bite my kids. So we can’t come to her house. I’m not saying everybody is that nuts when it comes to pit bulls but that did increase my antipathy toward them.

One idiot dad brought his unneutered massive pit bull to a school pet day event. It was aggressive to every dog it passed and it lunged and bit a Great Dane who was just minding his own business. I picked up my small dog and left the event.

I have a neighbor who is a very prominent DC/national VIP and the family walks its pit bull off leash 75% of the time in our DC neighborhood. Almost no one walks a dog of any type off leash here - it's not the culture, and it's stupid because of traffic and congestion -- let alone a pit bull.

But there you have it.

There was one lunging at people at Lone Oak Brewery. It was tied to a picnic table but every time someone walked by it straight up tried to bite them I couldn’t help myself and told the woman that maybe the dog wasn’t suited to be out in a crowd and didn’t she hear about the pit bull who killed tow kids in Tennessee. Her response? “It happens”

She raised them from puppyhood. Later, a family friend came out to defend the way those dogs were cared for - they were not mistreated or neglected as was reported. they just snapped. There is a subreddit r/banpitbulls if you all ever need any other proof.

My STBX is threatening to get a pit bull at his house in a misguided attempt to stop me from leaving his abusive a$$.

I'm PP above and haven't been posting in threads about dogs recently, but since I saw this thread I figured I'd share my story.

Some of you have very strong anti-pit feelings, and you clearly need to express them. But how about having a thread to which you can refer people who are looking for a dog rather than plunging every thread into the things you hate about pits?
