Not trying to terrify you but have him screened for lymphoma.

My ADHD child also had this during early covid lockdowns, which we mainly only noticed because it was a time of frequent temp checks and more time during next to each other on the couch and realizing "wow, you feel warm."

We had a panel of blood tests because of behavior changes around that same time but came back negative for everything, like prior strep, Lyme, covid, flu, etc.

I'm interested in following if anyone figures this out.

Did you ever find out the cause? My son has this problem but he had two back to back respiratory viruses and is still recouping from them. He also usually wears a hoodie, and an optional mask at school, which seems to make his temp run a little higher at times. Is your son on any meds? I wondered if a low fever could be a side effect of any meds. It is probably a lingering effect from a virus.

OP here. Thanks for letting me get this out in one place. I'll call pediatrician and see what they say.

She would get HIGH fevers and feel UNWELL for days, not just a couple of hours. This doesn’t sound like it all all.

I think I would take him to the pediatrician. Missing school repeatedly is not a minor issue--say exactly what you said here. There is likely a benign explanation, but some serious health issues can present with a transient fever—please get it checked out.

Research tick infections. There are several that cause relapsing fevers, usually low grade. Also Google Burrascano’s checklist. It doesn’t get cold enough now in our region for ticks to not be an issue year round.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, or the Health Forum. DC (age 9) seems to have transient fevers that may be stress-related rather than illness. He's just been sent home from school with a fever and won't be allowed back to school until Friday, but his fever is already gone at home and he feels fine. He has some health issues, allergies, chronic histamine issues, low carnitine, and ADHD. Is there a type of POTS that includes transient fevers? Or some other explanation?

During the height of the pandemic, he was refused admission a few times because of an elevated forehead temperature, but eventually places would allow a retake a few minutes later and he would be fine then. We've noticed a transient temperature at home occasionally, usually on the weekend, and he has come home twice with a short-lived-but-measurable fever at school this year.

Maybe he's chronically ill but I have the feeling that his body thermostat is dysregulated (like the rest of him). But medically, I don't know how that would be possible. This seems like a minor issue and I'm not sure what I would say if I brought him to the pediatrician, or a specialist. But now he's missing school again. Can anyone give me some advice?
