OP specifically addressed this. It's not.

If you limit your calorie intake to 1200-1500 per day, dividing that into 3 meals or 5 smaller meals you should be fine and you'll lose weight.

drink tons of water. large glass of water before meals.

cut out snacking unless it is portioned healthy snacks.

my DH lost 20 pounds this year by substituting a protein bar (or two) for lunches out.

Fill up on high-fiber vegetables. 3/4ths of your plate should be vegetables. Salad, sautéed spinach, roasted cauliflower and broccoli…

I also WFH and agree that taking a real lunch break should help. Eating while working (or watching TV or scrolling a phone, etc.) it is too easy to not really appreciate your meal and overeat. It also might help to “schedule” something for after so you aren’t idle and tempted into more - whether it is a meeting, phone call, short walk, load of laundry…whatever.

For dinner it sounds like you eat faster than your family and that is a potential pitfall. Work on that then. Be last to the table, get up to refill people’s drinks, grab that extra spoon, soak the pan first before sitting down, etc. Eat more slowly and mindfully? Drink more water with your meal? Also can try the schedule something idea - clean up, taken out the trash, wioe the counters, pack lunch for the next day, etc.

Add really strong flavors to meals. Like I do add cheese to my salads, but only blue cheese so a tiny amount is huge flavor. Make popcorn and season with Old Bay, etc.

When you feel the urge to snack, make a bunch of drinks and surround yourself. Herbal tea, zero calorie Gatorade, sparkling water, even diet soda or a protein shake. Lots of low calorie drinks to hydrate.

Huge salads.

Don’t keep food you like in the house.
Drink bubbly water with every meal.
Chew gum.
Go for a short walk when you’re thinking about seconds.
Eat very slowly.

I have the same problem. My solution has been huge salads for lunch (no cheese or croutons or things swimming in dressing - tons of veggies, usually beans or leftover chicken, and small amount of dtessing), and when I feel the need to eat/binge, I make air popped popcorn (can eat a lot for not to many calories).

For dinners, I load up on the veggies then add the protein, and tend to skip carbs (my downfall - I cannot eat a little bit of rice, pasta, potato). Sometimes I'll use cauliflower rice if my family is eating rice, or pasta zero or hearts of palm pasta if my kids are eating pasta.

Yes, working from home has been terrible for us too. My husband has developed a gut. Ugh. New Year's Resolution for me: no late night snacking when my body just wants to do to bed but I interpret that as hunger. Resolution for my husband should be no snacking between meals. For you, I think you need to cook mini-meals when you're by yourself, so you can eat normal meals with your family. If there are no leftovers, you can't eat them!

Do you have a designated home office? Never work from the kitchen or dining room.

Put everything meal on a bed of dark leafy greens. I eat 1lb of greens per week. Try intermittent fasting. Drink more coffee.

I know that portion control is a huge problem for me. I legitimately have a big appetite and love food. I am also pretty active and on days I get 90 minutes of cardio doing the sport I love, I am HUNGRY and want to eat.

My biggest problems are:
1) Working from home, eating while working on a computer or surfing the internet, I will just keep the lunch meal going on and on with more food.
2) Dinner - if I have small portions, the rest of my family is still eating and I'm done and still hungry.

I am pretty good about not snacking but I just want huge lunches and dinners. I try to skip breakfast but can generally keep breakfast, when I do eat it, smaller. I find that I am no more or less hungry for lunch whether I skip breakfast or not. For example, if I have two scrambled eggs for breakfast, I am just as hungry for lunch as if I had had only coffee.

What are some tips to curb my appetite and be satisfied with less food? For lunches, I am going to stop doing anything else when I eat, so it's boring, and then leave the kitchen when my meal is done. Even if I'm still hungry.

What else can I do? Eat a ton of raw veggies before the meal? Other ideas that have really worked for people?
