I don’t think giving accurate information is “berating” her. Sometimes when people ask questions they can benefit from some conversation to understand better what they are really asking. OP didn’t explain whether her limitations were lack of physical space, or other factors like just preferring to workout at a gym, minimize clutter, whatever. In the absence of this clarity, it is perfectly relevant for me to point out that weights can take up minimal space at home.

DP here who uses a personal trainer for this. For me, I have plenty of room in my house but having a standing appointment with my trainer makes sure I actually exercise.

Any specific trainers at Training Ground you liked?

W/o getting into specifics, I really don’t have the space for kettlebells, etc. Just take that one at face value.

Do you have space to unroll a yoga mat? Then you have space for kettlebells and bands. I’m looking at my kettlebells right now and they could literally fit on a cookie sheet. You can probably get away with even less to start out - 10, 15 and 20lb. They could also go on the bottom shelf of a bookshelf.

You’re pretty insistent in a not at all helpful way. I should add that I’m already pretty fit and strong.
I want to get into heavier weights. Little kettlebells are not what I’m looking for.

Are you already deadlifting more than 100lbs? Seriously, kettlebells are small. You could use 2 50lb weights. I get preferring to workout in a gym, or with a bar (which takes up more space, yes). But since this is a public website, I’d like women to know they can lift at home with kettlebells without needing much space at all.

OP doesn't want that recommendation. Why are you pushing it?

At Training Ground, meet with the manager (Steve) and he has a good sense of personality fit and can recommend someone. There are some new people not on their site, but Kat seems to work with a lot of people in your age group. So does Michael, but he's a bit "new age" in his approach which can be a plus or minus.

Weights don’t have to take up space in a home gym. You just need 4-5 kettlebells, a mat, some bands, a chair. Invest in a few sessions with a trainer to learn some exercises and create a home plan.

Fitness Together is a good choice. Another in Bethesda is Training Ground, next to the UPS store (and liquor store) on Hampden Lane.

Look at Fitness Together (in the shopping center with Staples and Pets Mart on Wisconsin). It’s designed for exactly what you’re talking about. It has three rooms and you work 1:1 with a trainer to make sure your form is correct and slowly advance you.

I do a lot of Pilates and walking, but want to add heavy weights to my routine, 2x a week.
I’d like to go somewhere, as I don’t have the space in my home and don’t want to hurt myself.
But joining a big gym seems like overkill as I won’t use any of the other amenities.

Are there any smaller places or programs in the dc area that you like? (I’m in Bethesda)
Any experience with The Perfect Workout, 202 Strong or personal trainers you’d recommend? Thanks!
