Seriously? The weather forecast for next week is for highs between 40-65 degrees. Schools will be open.

As for last year, there was a good amount of snow last year. The need to close schools for the first part of the week was legit. They probably could have opened on Thursday and Friday but there were probably areas that were still borderline enough to justify keeping the schools closed. More likely then not, the Thursday and Friday closures were more COVID related then weather related but there was enough snow and ice to be able to pass them off as weather related.

I recorded 8.8" of snow on Monday, January 3rd. That was the biggest storm in three years and enough to shut down school on Monday and Tuesday, and the way that this area works, Wednesday also. It was really the Thursday and Friday of that week that were more questionable and COVID concerns were likely to have played a role in the decisions.

There is no analog for this year.

There's no snow in the forecast next week and no reason to think there would be an issue with school.

This isn’t last year. Most people aren’t even testing for covid anymore so that’s not a concern. A significant percentage of staff will not be stranded because of southwest. School will happen.

Anything is possible with staffing and subs being an issue. With the Southwest meltdown, many teachers might be stranded.

I’ve made backup plans just in case.
