It's not good for kids. You can't argue that it is. Younger kids can stay in aftercare. Show me one study that says it's ok. It's par for the course. These same hs kids are now phone zombies. I rarely see one walking down the street without their faces on their phones. It's a brand new world of ick for kids.

this is American BS. Teenage Humans around the world manage to get up early to go to school, work etc…. They go to bed earlier. Common denominator in the US is social media/screens and teens.

This has been brought up for decades and the outcome is always that switching times will not work. I wrote an editorial about it for my high school newspaper in 1996. It's not a novel idea and nothing will ever be done about it. Enjoy the extra 20 minutes, which is a later start than we had.

MCPS looked into this several years back and ended up adjusting times by 20 minutes. (HS used to start at 7:25 am!)

Elementary School Tier 2 9:25 a.m.–3:50 p.m. 6 hours, 25 minutes


It has been discussed at length. Many parents want the older kids home first to babysit. Kids who need jobs in HS need the afterschool time to work. This beats out the research.

This start time is pretty typical everywhere. DC is the anomaly, and I love it for my kids.
