We finally picked private schools over MCPS. If we could do it all over again, I would have moved to Fairfax, both for FCPS and for stronger in-state college options. (I’m a product of Fairfax schools myself.)

MCPS all the way. It has a long history of excellence, whereas the VA school systems do not. VA is currently going through 2000s McMansion boom all over again, but once the Tyson’s job market peaks, so will the hype and value for the neighborhoods, similar to what happened to Potomac after the 90s.

Mostly focused on ES. Can't afford private. Right now we are at W&L but even Yorktown ratings have plummeted.

No one in Arlington refers to Washington-Liberty as W&L. That's the university. It's W-L.

Everyone refers to it as W&L. Most people have never even heard of the university.

OP THERE IS NO ?

Virginia schools are already tainted by Youngkin.

It is heading to school choice. Meaning Youngkin and Betsey Devos model of schools will ruin the schools. This is not magnet schools this is the religious right schooling and it is privatizing schools like in states like Alabama, MO, MI.

Not to mention VA Amanda Chase is going to be spewing more crap and creating a horrific environment for women. Women will lose jobs and education in VA that is a no-brainer it is coming. Anyone not believing this is not paying attention and is stupid.

Do what you want but buying in VA at this point in time is plain old dumb.

Like I said don't beleive me but in 2024. you will be sorry.

If I could go back and choose I would move to fcps. Not because I think the schools are better, but because the colleges are better and more choices in VA. We are stuck in Maryland now.

If you can afford Whitman cluster it's consistently been one of the highest ranked in MoCo across the board for the last 20 years.

I know MoCo is huge but we are focused primarily on Silver Spring area schools for context (those higher than 6 on GS).

Should we expect the same in Maryland? Anything they do better? I assume they are more Covid maniacal than Virginia so that’s been a big reason we haven’t wanted to move previously.

Here on DCUM there seems to be a certainty that MCPS has substantially declined across the board, too.

Except it really hasn't. The world is different today than 30 years ago, but anyone interested in getting a great education can do as well or better today than in years past. I went to MCPS 30 years ago and my kids are in HS and MS today.

It sounds like you'd be happier with a private school.
