Can you ask her what color her urine is? That will give you an idea. Show her pictures of what is normal and what isn't. Also does the diet coke have caffeine? If so, get her it without caffeine because that is dehydrating. If she is sedentary, drinking soda and not getting enough hydration she may be at risk for kidney stones.

I don't know how much she should be drinking and how frequently she should be urinating, you can research it or ask her doctor. PP was correct about urine color.

Drinking enough can be a problem for elderly people. Their sense of thirst can diminish.

My mother was becoming incontinent so her answer was to drink less. She was dehydrated and, as a result, gio headaches and dizzy spells and then had several ministrokes. Finally hospitalized, rehydrated, and then sent to rehab.

It is definitely something to have checked.

I am 46 and only drink two cups of coffee and two diet cokes a day. I don't like plain water. I'm perfectly healthy as far as I know.

Nobody needs 8 glasses for water per day and certainly not a women who doesn't exert herself. Just ask her to add more ice to her drinks to keep kidneys working.

It seems as though on an average day she drinks maybe 2 cans of Diet Coke, a few ounces of water when she brushes her teeth (maybe, I am hoping) and maybe 8 oz of seltzer. That seems like too little to me.

She is eating normally for her.

If sheis elderly, let her eat and drink whatever and whenever she wants, she earned it and being careful isn't going to make her live beyond 100.

It’s hard for me to tell because I don’t know what is Covid.

I think she doesn’t like to get up to walk to the bathroom, so this is her solution.

Beware of UTIs - very common and cause serious, concerning symptoms in the elderly.

That’s about double what my elderly mom with kidney disease drinks.

My mom was in assisted living and I would bring her fruit every week. This time of year, I would bring tangerines or something like that. This might help with her hydration too. Think about smoothies, lemonade, apple juice too.

Her pee should be the color of lemonade. If it is I would look for other causes of fatigue.

But I'd get her popsicles anyway.

She eats ice cream and yogurt. She is in independent living and I am kind of appalled by the lack of fruit and vegetables on the menu. I think it should be like school lunch where the vegetables and fruit are structured as part of the meal.

Would she suck on a half popsicle? Or ice cube through out the day?
