I also really like Helen Hoang, although her focus on male characters and neurodiversity is a little atypical for romance. I actually found her books legitimately emotionally intense (I have a kid on the spectrum).

The romance genre is huge and has lots of sub sections. You first need to tell us how much spice you want. Try errs a huge range from smut to closed door. There is zero shake in liking spicey scenes in the romance world. A few other areas to consider…

Romcoms tend to be farces. Fun and silly. Examples of this would be The Bodyguard by Katherine Center (fade to black sex scenes, btw) and Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood (allllll the details in the sex scenes).

Proper/clean romance tends to have no spice. Sex scenes don’t happen. Christian and Amish are more extreme versions of this genre. Books published by Shadow Mountain and Harper Christian would be good.

LGBT, own voices, mafia, why choose (formerly called reverse harem), academia and dark academia, dubcon…romance is the second most popular genre for a read. There’s a lot of diversity in it.

Looking for recommendations for a contemporary novel that contains romance. Obviously there's a lot of options out there, but looking for which ones people have really enjoyed. Not a recommendation for me, but a gift for someone else.
