We never wear shoes in the house. Ever.

But, if we are having a party for a formal event and invite guests, we do not ask them to take off their shoes.

If we're having a backyard BBQ that's informal, kids may take off shoes before going inside to not track mud in.

But at Xmas we'd never ask people to take off their shoes.

We dont do shoes. Im ok if people wear theirs as long ad they wipe them off really really well. I also grew up where peooel brought dress shoes or dress slippers with them. I do that st my parents house. Bring the pretty heels i want to wear there and clean them off st home first.

I hate no shoe households that make guests take off their shoes. I especially would hate it if I got all dressed up for a dinner or cocktail party and had to slip off my fancy shoes in exchange for bare feet or those awful shoe covers. Suck it up and vacuum or mop immediately after!

Ask them but if you know they prefer no shoes, then be respectful.

I wouldn’t think strictly no shoe people would host anything but intimate gatherings. No one is going to ask people to take their shoes off for a cocktail party or dinner party.

For a party we usually don’t but we feel uneasy and gross about it. If you know your hosts are a no-show house, why look for a loophole, OP?

Usually it’s a space at the front door where they provide space for shoes. I’ve also recently seen you can have adhesive applied to shoe bottoms and shoe coverings.

It would never occur to me that I would be asked to remove my shoes at a holiday party--that's pretty rude.

I mean, I don't personally have this rule (our house is shoes-optional), but some people do. The only way you'll know is to ask the host. (I think it's rude to demand that people take their shoes off in your house if you're not providing slippers or something -- or at least warning them in advance so they can dress appropriately.)

We don't have this rule for parties, but its not a cultural reason why we don't wear shoes, it's a preference. In some homes where it is cultural, they provide slippers for parties.

All the "no shoe" households I know have the same 'rule' for parties and gatherings. Don't wear complicated shoes. Wear socks, bring house shoes if you'd like.

No one cares about your outfit that much OP.

Do you also have this rule for parties? I'm going to someone's house today for a holiday party and am planning on wearing an outfit with these tall boots that require kind of a lot of effort to take off. And they really complete the outfit. I just had the realization that maybe it's not the best choice of footwear in case they require people to take their shoes off. Should I wear them or rethink?
