The PP didn't say how old her kid was when he told. Don't most kids learn that Santa isn't real from another kid? This is totally normal.
We never really made a big deal out of Santa. We leave out milk and cookies and a carrot for the reindeer, he brings a gift and leaves it under the tree, but we didn't go sit on his lap or make a big fuss about it. Playing Santa doesn't mean making a huge deal out of it. My kid is way more into decorating the tree and doing the Advent calendar than caring about Santa. It's just one little part of Christmas.
