Signed, a white woman who isn’t scared of Black propel, but thanks PP for perpetuating the lazy, racist, misogynist trope.

People always tell on themselves without even trying.

Nope, unless you count very minor crime like having a package stolen. I have lived in DC for 14 years, and in Adams Morgan for the last 10.

I’ve had rocks thrown at me while just riding down the street, presumably by children (they were the only people I saw).

No, but I witnessed a shooting which happened within 15 feet. I also saw two shooting from my window in Columbia Heights.
My friend was attacked in Adams Morgan while I ran 20 feet ahead of her to retrieve out car.
I witnessed an attack on a person in Adams Morgan after hours. Saw it from the beginning to the end and ended up in court testifying.
Two people jumped in my car in Adams Morgan asking me to drive them to police since they just got their SUV carjacked at gun point. They were not locals and had no idea which way was the main street- 18th.
The same friend of mine from earlier went through an attempted rape near Foggy Bottom.
My boss was attacked 4 am riding home from a bar in gang initiation. He barely survived and is handicapped for life.
I think I have more, but I cannot think right now.
I did work night, so many things happen at night after leaving work.

I mean, probably everyone has been the victim of porch pirates at some point.

DC native here. Never experienced anything violent but witnessed some violence and heard gunshots as a kid in the 90s on Capitol Hill. I’m my twenties (late 00s) I had five bikes stolen. Five. I intervened in two of the attempted robberies (successfully) but they all ended up being stolen.

I also used to ride my bike from DuPont to Capitol Hill after working at the Brickskeller - remember that place? - and observed prostitution around 14th -17th in downtown.

Yes. License plate stolen then used on stolen car in a hit and run. House broken into twice, once while basement tenant home. Car broken into twice, bike stolen, scooter stolen, lawnmower stolen. Small tree stolen from front yard, firepit stolen. Thankfully, we never experienced a violent crime but when our next door neighbor was robbed at gunpoint in his yard, we decided to move.

Bike stolen, car stolen, car broken into, car shot at - bullet went through rear passenger car door, out the other and hit our house.

Also, Matt Yglesias got knockout gamed.

Matt denies he was a victim of the knock out game. It was just ordinary random violence.

I was held up in broad daylight with my husband. It was a Sunday in April near Eastern Market. We went to church, had brunch, and were walking home when a guy approached us, pointed a gun at us, and we quickly handed over our wallets and our cell phones.

My husband and his best friend each had their cars broken into the morning of our wedding. They were parked on the street (again, near Eastern Market) and nothing but change was taken because they didn’t keep anything of value in their cars.

For any longtime resident the answer will be yes. Also many close calls.

PP from above.

Had my car stolen twice and a different car with a window broken.

Both times my car was stolen it recovered in the neighborhood after a joyride with the seats pushed all the way forward.

When the window was broken, they stole library books sitting in the passenger seat.

Do you read or hear about crime or did anything ever happened to you?
