Does anyone know what "increased risk" means? This is like having a minor surgery and being told there is a risk of death, choking, etc. We are constantly told about risk and asked to sign waivers. If there was actual substantial risk, that's totally different. The documentary makes clear that the volcano had previously erupted in 2013 and 2016 and it was 2019. It really should have been closed off.

I don’t think it was long enough. Too much time spent on lead up to the island. 7 people didn’t get burned. I would have loved to know exactly where they were on the island and were exactly the people who died were on the island.

Then more time spent on the recovery. So many people were in the hospital for months. Then there are liability laws in new Zealand which are so different.

I was there with my family two weeks before the 2016 eruption. No one had ever been injured in an eruption on that island until 2019. There had been a crater wall that collapsed and buried ten sulphur miners in 1914. With that track record, it felt as safe as any other excursion. It felt more dangerous walking on a glacier in Alaska.

I grew up there, and during that time only scientists went over to the island. I had no idea it had been opened to tourism until there was news about this incident. Yes, it should remain closed

I read a long article about it a while ago and that was enough! So awful. We were watching an old travel show about a cruise ship (great ships or something like that) where there was a featured stop at a volcano and I was like …..uh why are they still showing this episode? I think it was a different volcano but still.

I thought it was okay but wasn't too crazy about it.
