I'm doing this now (except I'm only 31 and have been graying since high school) and I follow several instagram pages and facebook groups to support people who are transitioning to their natural gray. Everyone seems to say that they were the most conflicted when they had gray that was noticeable but not quite to their ears yet, which it sounds like is where you are. There are some techniques people use for blending sometimes, like getting lowlights to blend the roots without having a really noticeable demarkation line. I might go that route in a couple of months when I have more growth.

OP here. LOL. I know! Maybe I need to wait until I'm in my 60's. I don't have many wrinkles so I don't look quite my age. Not significantly younger, but a few years.

OP here. The new growth isn't all gray so there isn't that straight demarkation line.

The problem is that I have the roots with no dye and the rest of it with some leftover. I think I'd have to get it done at the salon. I might do it. I feel like I look quite a bit older and my face looks washed out. I hate to add all the bother but I want to feel like I look good.

Don't do it. Almost nobody can look good gray (of course there is an occasional exception). It's aging and will make you look decades older than you are. Dying is so easy and worth it.

You have come this far. Go the distance. Do not take on that labor and cost of dying without at least giving the gray a fair shot. You won’t know what it looks like until it’s properly grown out and styled. You got this!

No, you have to let the gray go or get it dyed or dye it yourself. Or wear a wig.

I’m 52 and stopped dying my hair a few months ago. I’m a brunette and I used to dye myself roots at my part and around my face and get highlights at a salon. The roots started looking odd- too dark or too light. Now I have a couple or inches of gray and way more than I thought. I looked a lot better with darker hair and highlights but if I did it again I’d probably have to get it professionally done and touched up every 4 weeks (?) and that’s expensive and time consuming. I’m not sure what to do. Do I bite the bullet and let it go and try to get used to it or go back to the salon? Are there other choices?
