We never get buttery fingers. May need more baking? We make it all the time on our smoker.

I think you're using too much butter, or not cooking long enough. I've been trying to perfect for the past couple of years and have the opposite problem, it's not coated enough with the flavor, so too much of it is just toasted Chex. I keep upping the butter but I def don't have butter finger problems.

Agree, plus paper towels afterwards.

I have never in my life used paper towels on Chex Mix. How much butter/oil are you using, and how many boxes of cereal do you use?

Never paper towels and we use the family size box of Chex so now wheat Chex. We add in probably three or four other snacky things to the box recipe.

We put cayenne and garlic salt on ours. No buttery fingers.

I’m no expert but a friend makes a Holiday Chex mix and its binder is white chocolate (so Chex, pretzels, peanuts, whatever, everything is covered and white) and red/ green m&ms thrown in near the end. It’s divine. And no mess.

OP here and no, did not. Going to do less butter and towels next time— bet that will make the difference b/c it’s less buttery now after more hours so the doing the other should get us where need to be. Thank you all!

For first time and as a test batch made the Chex mix recipe from side of box. Good and addictive, but definitely needed napkins for buttery hands. Question for Chex Mix experts, is buttery fingers part of fun (like having orange residue when eat Cheetos)? Wanting to get right for when serve at family get together. Also, if any other variations that are known winners, would love to hear that too. I have been looking up and read some people add chocolate and marshmallows. Thanks from someone coming out from under rock and to the Chex mix making world 70 years late.
