Is gas an option? We converted the house from oil to gas 7 or 8 years ago for $10k. Obviously more today, but not 6-7x the cost!

Why can’t you just convert the boiler to electricity? That seems like a no-brainer.

Wow, that seems really high - is it because you have to run new ducts everywhere? We converted from oil to gas around 8 years ago in our last house, but kept the radiators which we actually loved. Our all-in cost for the gas conversion + new gas boiler + oil tank removal was around $15k. Unrelatedly, we ended up selling within a year of the conversion and I know we made all of that back. It would have been tough to sell with the oil tank/furnace still in place.

My house, like many in the DMV constructed 100 years ago, uses heating oil to fuel the furnace. I got an estimate to switch to a heat pump and it was between 60-70k, and that does not include the cost of removing the old radiators and patching plaster/floors. That is astronomical! Does anyone know of rebates or other incentives to help homeowners get off heating oil? The best I could find online were rebates around $7k, which is something, but nowhere near the amount needed to make this an affordable conversion.
