This is not a bragging and obnoxious parent; it's one who has ridden the road and has good advice. There is nothing wrong with community college.

The first year is often the hardest. Students come in with a huge range in background and many have a lot of leveling up to do.

As a point of curiosity, but also as guidance for our son, was your son admitted test optional or through a hook? What were his test scores? Did you think he was ready for CMU, especially since your older son had experience there?

What is wrong with you! The kid is putting in 80 hours already! OP, maybe try to get him some help in figuring out if he needs to change his approach to the work (change study technique etc.); if after this he still has the same results and still want to transfer out try to work with him.

You and he should trust his feelings on this. I had a similar experience in a different STEM school, and I stubbornly stuck with it until my mental health declined and I flunked out. Would have been much better to transfer. You can help by assuring him it’s okay. My parents didn’t help at all, and in fact raged at me for failing.
