I am new to this, but my understanding is that it's a tentative schedule to make sure the student knows the path that they will be going through. Some courses have pre-req so the students should not be caught off guard. officially the students choose 10th grade classes in 9th grade Jan-Feb timeframe. None of the classes are set in stone

I *believe* a U.S. government class (which is required for graduation in many states, WTH Texas?), would be a core class. Economics is a social studies elective.

Ha ha! Yes, all his friends are working on 4 year class plan. In Jan, his school requires to fill in a sample of 4 year schedule and requires sign off from his current teachers on what they want to take in 9th grade. School already has a meeting scheduled with HS councilor for Feb 1st week, we received a postcard 15 min student + parent. Kids have already visited HS pre Thanksgiving, already attended 8th grade to 9th grade presentation etc.

OP here, agreed it can be a jump. Kiddo takes AOPS classes and other Math enrichment classes in addition to the school work, so TBH, Calc BC would be a "somewhat" repeat in 10th grade. But yes, if PreCal proves to be much, absolutely would drop to Calc AB. Thanks for the feedback!

He should be focused on sports, friends, getting to second base, and yes, keeping his grades up - but not on what calculus class he'll be taking in four years.

It can be a huge leap from Pre-Calc to BC Calc. It's definitely possible to do, but if the pre-calc preparation is lacking or grades are lower than A, I'd suggest doing AB Calc.

DC came to me for feedback on their course selection for high school, the discussions with their HS counselor is sometime in Jan. Does this look reasonable? For context, this is a public school in Texas. DC is accelerated in Science and Math, in 8th grade they are taking Algebra 2 and Adv Bio in HS with very good grades. Their focus is top schools in CS. In addition to the core subjects, they may want to take Art and perhaps Swimming as elective. Very driven and mature for their age. Any obvious things that are missing? Thank you in advance!!
