Horrified to read the news about the hate incident at Whitman this weekend. I have younger kids in elementary school who will be attending Whitman. We’re Jewish. How is the culture and community at the school when it comes to underrepresented minorities?

They’ve had those for years—long before the frying pan incident or anything recent. They were even there when I was a student there. Pretty sure it was just to ensure staff can see what’s going on on the other side of the hallway. Whitman’s building doesn’t really have wing, the layout is like a Superman symbol and it’s essentially all one hallway with a few different angles.

They are for safety to cover the "blind spots" that cameras in the hallways don't cover. Not just for possible gun incidents but so security and staff can see to make sure students are not doing inappropriate things in the corners. Lots of schools have them.

Sure, that could be the reason. But they could also be helpful in crowded hallways as students rush to class.
