It's just because Fairfax put theirs out 20 minutes before. Hard for APS not to copy them when so many teachers live there.

I think it's a good idea to anticipate APS following FCPS on weather related closings. The number of APS staff that live in Fairfax has increased tremendously in the past 5-8 years paired with the fact that we are short on subs on normal days means APS will struggle to open on those days. I've been teaching in APS for 15 years and this hasn't always been the case- we frequently (and logically) were open when FCPS was closed for weather.

So glad I have to burn a couple of hours of PTO for rain. 🙄

I work for Arlington County (not the schools) and right after reading this I got a text saying the County is opening on time. Sigh. Was hoping to hang with the kids in the morning.

They may change it again. It’s really going to depend if we wind up getting any accumulating ice here, and they just won’t know that until closer to dawn. There are a few hills right by schools that busses slide right up and down if there’s ice so if they can’t do that hill (I’m looking at you 14th st), they will likely close.

I think there’s a decent chance.

There’s also a decent chance we get nothing more than a bit of rain. Prepare for a lot of this now that APS can fall back on virtual learning if they needlessly burn through snow days.

Yeah, and like they wanted to put a marker down as having communicated early…

I figure it’ll be at least a 2 hour delay for APS by tomorrow morning.

That email felt like wishful thinking.

They emailed that they are planning to open normally tomorrow, but I’m wondering if they will get cold feet, lol, when other districts delay or close. Anyone feel like speculating?
