My whole family is overweight (like my mom and siblings) and it’s all I’ve ever known. One day I looked at a thin friend who loves food and eats all the time and wanted to cry thinking of what my life could have been like with her genetics.

Genetics. DH and his sister have similar bodies. Wide shoulders and a muscular, very thin frame. They’re natural running bodies that are strong and light.

DH’s diet is a mix of extremely healthy and full-on crap. He just doesn’t gain excess weight.

Genetics! My MIL is like this, was on bed rest with my SIL in her early 40s and couldn’t stomach anything but carbs. Was in a bikini with washboard abs by summer with zero effort. DH and one of our kids are like this, too. Part of it is they are mesomorphs and naturally have more muscle mass even though they are slender.

People said wait until 40 for me, but I’m 43 and still lean (not skinny, always had more of an athletic build and can put on muscle easily). I’m just trying to enjoy it while I can because I know it can’t last forever (esp the muscles).

It's great that you are skinny. My aunt was skinny and ate tons of processed food. Dropped dead of a heart attack at 50.

I was you until I had my second kid. Now I'm still a size 2 but can't eat and drink all that deliciousness anymore and stay this way. Sigh. And my shape is slightly different.

You probably have a fast metabolism, but you also probably don't eat as much as you think. Metabolisms don't vary that much Calorie intake does. Even if you eat junk food, if your portion sizes are reasonable you won't gain weight. I'm a middle aged guy who's always been naturally skinny, and don't wear that well, but I instinctively stop eating when I'm full. Overweight people tend to have a naturally stronger hunger.

I was like this but started to pack it on in my late 40s. I had a bleeding problem and had to have a mirena inserted so I don’t know if that contributed to it. I am now about a size 6 to 10, depending on brand and cut. It’s mostly belly fat — like when you first get pregnant.

I could probably lose it if I followed the dcum recommended diet of basically no carbs plus HIiT workouts and weightlifting. But it turns out I don’t care all that much. For dinner tonight, I had a big kale salad, a few slices of garlic bread, and some nice cheese from the farmers market. I’m not giving up stuff like garlic bread and pasta. I’ll probably have a cookie with tea for dessert. Given my genetics, I’ll probably live another 50 years and the thought of giving up carbs for that long is insoportsable. If I hit size 14, I’ll reconsider.

You may find you eat less as you age naturally. I don’t eat nearly as much as I did in my 20s and 30s. Basically I only want 1 big meal and then 1-2 small meals. I used to love beer but now it makes my stomach hurt. So I think our bodies do tell us when we need to eat less.

Genetics. Wait until 40 tho and see what happens then. When your hormones change up it may affect metabolism.

You are me. I’m 46. My ass is a little bigger but that’s about it.

These are good genetics, if there was a resume for dating and marriage it would be a very important trait.

It’s genetics. You’re lucky! Have some sympathy for the rest of us.

You're lucky, genetically. You are not susceptible to metabolic syndrome even in today's nutrition climate and even though you eat a lot of processed food and carbohydrates.

This is going to come off as a humblebrag or just a brag, but I'm thin and I have no idea why.

I'm 32. Size 0/2. Yes, I work out and love to exercise, but we always say you can't outrun the fork. I love food. I eat like a horse. I have a mega sweet tooth. I love everything that's bad. Cheeseburgers. Bacon. Ice cream. Chocolate. Beer. I really like beer. And pizza. Pizza and beer especially. I eat a lot of carbs.

There are times when I eat better and times I eat worse, but it makes no difference. I usually work out a lot, but even when I was injured, my weight never changed within five pounds. As for genetics, I guess everyone in my family is thin, except my mom. She is very overweight and blames me (tongue-and-cheekly) because she gave birth to me at 39. Before that she was 5'8 and 125 lbs. My sisters are both thin after giving birth to three kids. But my mom IS overweight. So when is the other shoe going to drop? Can I keep up my beer-drinking, pizza-eating ways and rely on offestting it with being generally very active, or am I going to get fat overnight in 15 years when I go through menopause or whatever. I really like pizza and beer. I also like being a size 2. I'm honestly not sure which I like more. Probably pizza and beer.
