We started early intervention and speech/OT from 22 months. We didn’t see any progress till 30 months. Kid is fully caught up for speech at 3.5 now. It can take a long time, particularly with receptive delay. We already had the ASD diagnosis.

Neither. Early intervention assigned an educator to us and speech therapy

Nobody can tell you whether he will catch up or what he will be diagnosed with in the future. Do the therapy child find suggested, play with him, talk to him, engage in the things he enjoys (maybe Google the floor time approach). Love the kid you have. Be his champion, but also accept him for who he is.

That sounds similar to our son at that age who got an ASD diagnosis. Moco Infants and Toddlers were unhelpful with both my kids and they dismissed several of my concerns. It’s still with it to do the evaluation with Moco Infants and Toddlers to get into the system. I would see if you can get an eval ASAP through the county as a place to start but also get on the waitlist at KKI (they should have a shorter waitlist than childrens) or go private for an evaluation from a neuropsychologist. And also a hearing evaluation as well.

Contact early intervention ASAP.
My 22-month old was similar (no pointing, no
waving, no words, hand-leading) and turned out to have a receptive and expressive delay. She was later diagnosed with ASD but that doesn’t matter at this point. Focus on getting an evaluation and the necessary supports as quickly as possible.
MoCo Infants and Toddlers was wonderful.

I would also suggest requesting an evaluation through early intervention, if it's hard to figure out who provides 0-3 services in your area, you could ask your ped's office to point you in the right direction. I think you are better off getting some feedback from professionals, vs all of us weighing with opinions.

If you are in Montgomery county, contact Child Find. They will schedule an evaluation, and get him into Infants and Toddlers program/services if needed. It's free - the earlier you get the interventions, the better

I would schedule an early intervention assessment through your county. We did this 18 months for speech delay concerns. He came back a bit delayed but not enough to qualify for service. You’ll get therapies if he qualifies.

22 month old has barely any words. The words he has are not necessarily associated with the right thing or person. For example, mama doesn’t refer to mom. No pointing, no waving. Leads by hand to get what he wants. Another thing that is concerning is he seems zoned out, like when you talk to him he is doesnt really engage in the conversation and seems like he is ignoring you. He will look at you make eye contact but thats it, then will go back to whatever he was doing, doesn’t say yes or no doesn’t nod or shake his head. Enjoys playing hide n seek, peek a boo etc. I don’t understand why he ignores whoever is talking to him or asking him something. Its baffling..
