This! I love getting cards! Honestly, that means more to me than a gift certificate.

I also read them on rough days. Old cards have actually kept me from quitting. I had a really rough week last year, hitting rock bottom. It was a stack of old cards that helped me clearly see reasons I should stay. Teachers don’t get a ton of kind words.

Give the $20 and a nice note, by all means, but skip the “token” crap. It’s wasting your money, they don’t want more garbage, and it hurts the environment. Stop with the crap.

It’s usually a candy or other treat the child reports to me that the teacher is often seen eating. I guess I can drop it though.

Drop it. Just think of all the food at the holidays that everyone gets, then multiply that by five for teachers. Too much JUNK.

My sister is a teacher and she has to give gifts over the amount back, which is very awkward. So I would not go over that.

What district is this? I've not heard of a cap before. If our district has that, it isn't widely shared.

We do $50 gift cards for older DD's teacher and younger DD's primary caregiver at daycare. When we used to have multiple caregivers across 2 daycare classes, we did $25 each.
Just gift cards (usually Visa or Target) and a card with a personal note. No trinkets, candy, etc.

I do fulfill wishlists of supplies or books they want for the class room.

I do $25 for each teacher. Target gift cards were 10% off last weekend so I bought those.

I typically give $20 with a small token/gift. I’m so torn this year, because another $40-$50 is really pushing the budget (I have two kids) but also I don’t want to be cheap and only give $10. Are we all doing the same amounts this year or have you cut back?
