I just finished the Jane Austen Book Club and there is so much discussion about this! Did anyone else read that?

I would start with Pride & Prejudice and see what you think.

She IS rather a pill.
Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite.
Northanger Abbey is a fun send-up of gothic novels. Persuasion has the most sympathetic heroine.

PP who asked if she really needed to read any Austen: I would say yes.

Do you think you’d have better luck with an audiobook? I think Austen works surprisingly well read aloud.

Agree with all of the above.

Not Mansfield Park. I use it to put myself to sleep. Better than Ambien.

I read P&P when I was 11. I didn't have to read it for school, my mother gave it to me and I loved it. The others are ok, I quite like Mansfield Park for the spoof gothic elements.

If I’m 43 and never read a Jane Austen book but consider myself a reader, do I need to read one? I’m not sure if I should force myself to read one over the holiday break or just stick with a good non-fiction or historical fiction.

Persuasion is a little shorter, I think. But Pride and Prejudice has the most intriguing plot.

Persuasion. It's also the best movie adaptation.

Persuasion. But I also love Pride and Prejudice. I re-read all of her books every few years.

I read a ton but it’s mostly non-fiction. I’ve taken a few runs at Jane Austen and enjoyed them as far as I got but I don’t think I’ve actually ever finished one, which is an embarrassing thing to admit.

Which Jane Austen is your favorite?
