Dealer profits more from service department (including warranty work) than selling at MSRP. You’re also less likely to purchase F&I services like extended warranty, etc. It’s the long con.

Thank you for the insight. I have no idea what I am doing so I really appreciate it. I'll tell you what the local dealer says...

We had a car delivered from a dealer last summer. It was around $750 for the delivery. Came right to our house so super easy. All in was a good deal because we got the car for list price, when other dealers were selling it at a premium, by using a dealer in another state.

Of course they will do that. They get a sale.

Obviously, they can't go anywhere and get a car. It has to be a part of their buying/selling infrastructure.

But if they have the ability & want your business, they will get the car. This is not uncommon at all.

Get your local dealer to swap for it.

I've had several cars come from out of state. For one of my first cars, the salesman showed me where the cars that most closely matched what I wanted were located and I picked one from CT that was sent to the nova dealership that I purchased it from. Ever since, I've just told the salesman exactly what I wanted and then let them find it. It's never been an issue or cost me more than I expected to pay.

I bought a car that came from out of state but I did it through my local dealer. They have some sort of swap/ credit system. The local dealer had more incentive to do the real because it meant that I would be more likely to go to them for service etc. Can you approach a local dealer to see if they might be able to help out?

The car I want with the package I want is 500 miles away out of state.

I do not want to negotiate -- I'll pay full price.

But I want the dealer to ship the car (at cost -- I'll pay it).

Is that reasonable and how does someone go about asking? I have no idea the process.
