CA = common app

CDS = Common Data Set. Each school has link to theirs, on their website (most do anyway). It's the best way to calculate acceptance rate for that school, unless they post it on their admissions page. Do not trust admissions rates for schools just by googling that question. It will give you a not conservative enough answer.

SLAC = Small Liberal Arts College or Selective Liberal Arts College

Hooked = some characteristic that makes an applicant more attractive to a college (race, geographic location, athletic skill, legacy, ability to donate large amounts of money)- normally used in the sense of a characteristic not specifically academic

TO = Test Optional
AO = Admissions Officer

Also some consider full pay a "hook" but I don't think so. As top colleges are mostly need blind. Some SLACs consider ability to pay and some higher level colleges.

SLAC Small Liberal Arts College e.g. Amherst, Williams, Pomona, Swarthmore, or the like.
Hooked/Unhooked Hooked is a kid that has certain status that gives a higher probability of admissions e.g. recruited athlete, under represented minority (black or hispanic and could be abbreviated as URM), or legacy (parents went there but some schools include grandparents or siblings).
TO-this one may mean transfer option as Cornell gives these out. But not positive.

Good idea. I had to google CTCL (colleges that change lives). I guess it's based on a book, but I'm still not exactly sure what it means. Maybe less competitive / pressure-cooker colleges?
