I would suggest this too. Much cheaper and works really well especially when you don't need to be on it for long. Probably a better option for you. Qsymia worked really well for me and I lost a lot of weight.

How did it help you. Did it suppress your cravings for carbs/sugar? Did the medication give you brain fog?

I would suggest the subreddits vs the FB groups. What you need to know is:

Current meds are hard to find. Ozempic by Novo Nordisk for diabetes and it’s rebranded as Wegovy for weight loss. Both are having supply issues and it is difficult for some to find in stock, particularly Wegovy.

Mounjaro is a similar medicine by Eli Lilly. It is also for diabetes and also having some supply issues.

All these meds are over a $1000 out of pocket. You can get a paper RX from your doctor to order Ozempic from a Canadian pharmacy for less than $400.

Another option is to order compounded semaglutide. Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Ozempic/Wegovy and it can cost about the same or slightly less than ordering from Canada.

The subreddits have tons of info - start there.

OP, consider Mounjaro (Tirzepatide). It is also not currently covered by Tricare but it is even more effective. There is a Mounjaro weight loss facebook group. If your doctor will prescribe it, you can get it-- it's not that you "can't" take it with tricare, just that tricare won't pay.

Try phentermine, OP. It's a very quick, easy, safe way to lose weight.

If you are active duty and reasonably close to your upper weight limit, you are not obese. Maybe a few pounds overweight. Plus you aren’t diabetic. This drug is not for you.

Just eat less. That is what the med will force you to do anyhow.

Yes, I am aware of that.

Are you the OP? You said your doctor said you’ll only need it for three months. That’s now how it works.

This person needs to weigh a certain amount or be fired. Do what you need to do

So it won’t be a problem once they gain it back? I assumed you have to maintain standards but I guess not!

You do have to maintain standards and I have managed to maintain standards for 16 years with diet and exercise. I've had some challenges this year and really struggling with to lose 7 lbs. Sometimes people have challenges. I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that the military is a rigid system so I had to find help outside of the military system in order to maintain the standard for this year.

I have no qualms with using Ozempic to lose the weight you need to. The point is that weight loss on Ozempic only lasts as long as you take it. This idea that you will only need to take it for a few months is not realistic. If you cannot lose 7 pounds without it, as soon as you stop taking the medication all the factors that are keeping you at your current weight will bring your weight back up.

OP—
There is a Facebook group with over 100K members called Ozempic/Wegovy Weight Loss Support Group. I would suggest joining and asking there. Someone is bound to know.

Good luck to you!

I have struggled this year to maintain my weight standards for active duty, first time in 16 years. Lots of things going on that's probably contributing to the difficulty that I'd rather not go into on a public forum. I've been to the MTF nutritionist and tried lots of things, now they want me to reduce my daily calories to 900. Yikes.

Saw a civilian weight loss doctor who recommended Ozempic, I only have about 7 more lbs to lose so the doctor thinks I'll only need the medication for about 3 months since I'll be on a low-dose.

Tricare will not cover it because I am not diabetic. I plan to pay out of pocket. However, I read recently on this forum that you are not allowed to be on Ozempic if you are on Tricare. I can't find any information online to confirm this. I looked at the prior authorization form for the drug and I don't meet the criteria for coverage which I already know but I cannot find information that active duty members cannot take Ozempic.

Thanks.
