Any feedback on Oneness high school admission process? Is it hard to get in?

I am confused why you said no in your reply when I said one should ask how many seats are available regardless of what school you apply to.

But to at least clarify for HS, there were 21 kids last year in grades 9-12. There were 5 graduates. This year there are 24 kids enrolled. There were multiple admissions and every grade had new students - not just 9th.

No. Oneness admitted one kid last year to one mixed grade. It’s different. Or at least that’s what they told us. They had one spot. This is a tiny tiny school and it’s important to ask.

Which is true of any school. How many threads are there on DCUM about acceptance rates and applicant numbers? Visit and interviews and shadow days and applications take a lot of time and effort! Been there, done that. It’s work!

Just like all schools it can depend on the grade you are applying for. Plenty of people on here asking about “entry years” and some grades have fewer open seats. That is always important to ask (not expect to be told) and not particular to Oneness.

Personally not that I know of but no school would (or should) disclose that.

For the OFMHS - regarding inclusiveness, does the school have anyone with Down syndrome?

Yes, that is roughly the split - half and half.

I have no clue on the dating. Doesn’t seem to me there is but HS students don’t spill much tea at home. My impression (and goodness I could be wrong!) is that more the kids are friends and strive for community. That said, the kids are all different personalities and interests but seem to accept and embrace differences and just mesh. It isn’t like they all flock to a trend and follow it. So like lately buying clothes I asked if my DC wanted something in particular (like do kids maybe wear X or Y) and the answer was no. Individuality welcomed.

There are some activities as a group outside of school on weekends but those are always optional. They do also have a group chat of some sort - no clue if txt or discord. They can also form their own clubs at school so if they have an interest then it can be pursued and get others to join and there are times for that.

The teachers are wonderful and super responsive!

I am a parent of a year 3 (11th) student. Are you looking at high schools for a student or generally curious about Montessori, Montessori at HS level or, metro DC schools options in general?

To answer the other poster - there are currently 21 students. The classes are split between 9th/10th and 11th/12th. So like with science they flip flop so one year is with 9th/10th doing chemistry and then next year is (I think) biology. Honors tracks available. No AP. Language choices are Spanish, French and American Sign Language (ASL). A lot is student driven so I understand ASL was added at the request of students. There is a strong emphasis on community service. They have internship and field trip weeks.

Thanks. So is it roughly 10 students in 9th/10th and 10 in 11th/12th? How are the social dynamics? (is there dating?)

I should add that some classes they are all together like morning meeting, PE, etc

Didn’t realize they had a HS— curious what the class size is.
