The only reason I might not do something like that these days is if I didn’t have anyone else available to pick up my kids.

But I’d rearrange if I could, and I know my husband would rearrange to pick up the kids so I could take the coworker, if at all possible. It’s what you do.

100% we have a who will get who if there is an emergency/ need to evacuate agreement.

Guarded? Like the coworker today might be pulling a fast one on you and aiming to get a ride so she could carjack you and kidnap you for ransom? Why is your guard up so high that you'd consider NOT taking a colleague to the hospital?

What? Of course you take people to the ER! We have a rule at work that one of us is always on call if a coworker is pregnant or has a health condition that we will drop everything to take them to the ER. We’ve had people have heart attacks at work, everything - but someone always is willing to jump in.

That's not being nice that's being a decent human being. I'm 52 and if anyone asked me to do that for them now I would without hesitation. I can't imagine someone with a broken nose needing a ride and saying no, for no good reason. Dang OP, you sound like a hardened person.

I certainly did and still do “these type of random things for others”. I wouldn’t even consider that to be especially “nice”, but would expect the same from anyone. Unless there’s more to this story?

You have some serious problems if you think just taking someone to the ER makes you Mother Theresa.
