No one is expecting a meal. It’s after lunch. It just seems weird not to have something to nibble on. Also the last gathering with this group at another home everyone stood around even though there was ample seating - I am trying to avoid any foods that need a fork.

Are you sure? I would expect lunch with a 1:00 start time.

The invite said snacks. Other gatherings with the same group have been snacks.

Make Ina Garten's curried chicken salad but put it in mini phyllo cups. Perfect for a shower and a bit more substantial. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/curried-chicken-salad-recipe-2014291.amp

If you want some warm food, a more cold-weather sandwich could be panini (e.g., one with chicken, one vegetarian) cut in half or quarters. Also think about empanadas or hand pies.

As a vegetarian I always appreciate it when the charcuterie aren’t nestled up right by the cheese!
Mini sandwiches- I’d do cucumber with herbed butter or cream cheese in addition to the chicken.
Something savory in puff pastry - doesn’t have to be cheese, can be pesto or tapenade.
Cute two-bite desserts such as macarons, mini tarts, etc.
A sparkling beverage (can offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic options)

Do a huge charcuterie / snack platter with a couple different types of cheese, sausage, crackers, nuts, grapes, olives, dried fruits, candies, etc. Easy to assemble and then everyone can just grab what they like. There’s cheese but it’s not super cheese-centric. The ONLY issue might be if you have significant guests with gluten or nut allergies as gluten and nuts will get all over the place.

I’m hosting a baby shower from 1-3pm in a few weeks. It’s only 10-12 people total, for a woman in my book club.

Other guests offered to bring a cheese ball and decorated cookies with the shower theme. What else would you serve?

So many of the apps I see have more cheese. Is it too much cheese to have another cheese like endive with blue cheese and walnuts, a whipped ricotta or feta spread, bite size baked brie with jam?

I was thinking:
Roast nuts with herbs
Candied cranberries in a pretty bowl
Olives
bite size pumpkin or spice Bundt cakes
a savory pastry like a phyllo cup or filled phyllo triangles?
