OP
How about looking at the choice more rationally?
What major?
What interships do the schools offer?
What classes does your child need to take to complete a degree?
How hard is it to change majors or matriculate to each major.

Michigan is a better school across the board. It isn't close.

Living in a college town is fun, which you would miss at USC. It is also much cheaper to live in Mi than SCal

Michigan. Hands down. Fall begins in September and is gorgeous in Ann Arbor. Winters are indeed cold but the snow beautiful. Further, you are gone for Winter break in December (and the snow of festive) have a couple long weekends in January and February, then Spring break. After that you are into Spring another beautiful season. If you don’t like winter at all then no. But if you like all seasons absolutely yes.

Would you rather go to USC with LA fun and sun or try to bear tough academics and harsh winters at U Michigan for scholarship?
