This. At least for current juniors. But I think the calculation is only based on unweighted GPA so unweighted course (eg for Spanish 1 and 2, Algebra 1) As stay in and bring down the weighted GPA if above 4.0.

Here is the language used in Regulation IKC-RA:

"For students who entered Grade 6 during or after the 2016-2017 school year, the final grade and credit earned for high school courses successfully completed while in middle school will be reported on the high school transcript, but will not be calculated into the cumulative GPA, unless the grade earned improves the student’s cumulative GPA. If the course grade for a high school course taken in middle school improves the student’s cumulative GPA, it will be applied automatically by MCPS. Parents/guardians may opt out of the automatic calculation by contacting the school counselor."

What grade is your daughter currently in?

I think beginning with the kids who are currently in 10th grade, a student can elect to remove a grade, but not a course, from the transcript. Meaning, French would show up, with no grade.

If a student retakes the class, they can elect which grade is used in GPA calculation. But that won't apply here since it is 2 different classes.

So, back to my first question, what's your daughter's current grade?

The class will show on the transcript. It won’t be included in the MCPS GPA unless it helps the overall GPA (at least starting with this year’s 10th graders; I’m not sure what the rule is for the kids before then). If colleges recalculate GPA, I can’t imagine they’d include classes taken in MS.

I was told no - you can't get rid it of unless you retake the class in high school.

Ask the counselor- I'm pretty sure you can choose to strike the grade.

I agree, but it seems unfair to have a class she took at age 11 count against her GPA. Especially when we were told it was our choice whether it counted.

I think they stay on the transcript (which is kinda silly), but I'd guess it won't matter to universities that much. My son will probably get a B in his FL class in 6th. The kids are 11. If a college cares so much about what they did in a FL class at *11*, then scr*w them, I guess...

I don’t know of one (except maybe to take the class again in HS) but I wouldn’t worry about it

DD took French in 6th grade and got a B. I thought we needed to opt in to have the credit applied to HS but I just noticed on her transcript that the credit and grade are recorded. She has since switched to Spanish and has no interest in continuing with French. Is there any way to strike that MS credit?
