OP, it is extremely rare for people to move out of the family home at 18. The only people I know who did that were trying to get away from a dysfunctional family.

Why do you think it's emotionally healthy to move out at 18? I could see making a case for moving out between 25 and 30, or (as in my case) if your parents live in a place with few job opportunities, moving out ASAP makes sense but I think when you live together as adults it helps parents and their adult children build a relationship that will sustain the swing of the pendulum to the parents being dependent on the kids for help and support with elder care.

Housing was expensive then too. People like making excuses for the lazy.

My childhood was going great, and I didn't go to college isn't required, and we are going to need to pay 20K of her student loan debt, another topic I talked to them about.

NP. Yes, housing is expensive and kids all over the world delay moving out because of it. The brief period of US history where people moved out at 18 was more of a rarity, no?

But let me throw another MYOB in for good measure. Why on earth would you start a fight with your sister about this?

I agree with you but your sisters kid is none of your business.

Plus, it’s true housing is super expensive right now.

I graduated from high school in June 1999, and moved out in the summer of 1999. Of course we have different political views but still.

Also MYOB?? It’s not your kid. I don’t agree with what my nieces and nephew choose to do but hey, not my kids.

So I moved out my parents house after I graduated from high school, I love my parents but I moved out because I was an 18 year old adult, and now 20-30 SOMETHINGS are still living at home with mommy and daddy what happened?
Are they treating like babies now? I got into a fight with my sister yesterday, because her daughter is 22 and has no plans on moving out, I asked her what she plans on moving out and she has no plans why?
