Call your nanny and get the whole story. I think it’s really strange that you’re questioning this unless there is a history of deception. And if there is a history of deception, then why is she still your nanny? Getting kicked in the head especially by an eight year old who might be flailing or moving can certainly cause an injury. Would You need the medical and hospital info to run it through your Home insurance for personal injury ?

Your daughter is eight. Ask her what happened and make sure she knows she’s not in trouble in case she did accidentally kick. She may have kicked and not noticed.

Yes we asked DD and she said she didn’t remember. Then she said she was rushing and trying to get her socks on, they were both sitting on the floor and she accidentally put her foot up as nanny was bending down. The fact that DD didn’t remember makes me wonder how bad it could have been

OP - yes DD is 8 and it’s a rush in the mornings as we get in the car at 7.15. We’re organized the night before but apparently DD woke late last Thursday and was running late so nanny was helping her to get dressed. Usually DD gets dressed on her own. So the whole thing is definitely confusing

DD is 8yo, we put shoes on at the front door so it would have been barefoot. Of course it’s possible it happened just seems unlikely. The nanny is new and it has never happened before.

OP - I agree that it’s possible it happened. DD is 8yo and so I don’t know if it happened, but it could have happened. Nanny didn’t call us or send a text to say that because of the situation she’s had to go to the ER and has been diagnosed with a concussion and will need to take a week off. She didn’t mention it at all on Friday, though I agree it’s possible that she continued to feel worse so she went to the ER
She’s out a lot over the last three weeks as she said her son needed an emergency surgery, which I believe.
But the whole thing just feels a bit scammy. It might be that I need to call and speak to her and ask her exactly what is going on.

+1. Morbid curiosity I guess but I’m curious about this too. I have three little boys who are very wiggly and have been kicked but nothing close to a concussion. Id take her word for it and send those flowers but I also see why you’re doubtful. As a one time thing I would definitely let it go and assume it happened just as she said. If there has been a pattern of these types of things happening or you start to see one I might approach the situation with a bit more skepticism

I'd ask for a doctors note.

And I show up to work the next day and try and work through it so I can be seen as a reliable employee. So yes, she very well may have work the following day feeling like absolute crap because she has a boss that might not be understanding.

On Thursday morning our FT nanny/housekeeper told us that our daughter accidentally kicked her in the head as she was getting DD dressed for school. She asked for Tylenol but worked the full day, she also worked all day on Friday. At 4am on Monday her husband sent a text to say that she was ‘at the ER again’ and would not be coming to work. Last night she sent me a text to say she had just gotten home, that she has a concussion and is dizzy so she can’t work for at least a week.
What would you do or think?
