Shaking your phone will display the QR-code for scanning at checkout. It's a shortcut. You can also use the "checkout" button in the app to display the QR-code.
To your question, OP: the coupons are applied at checkout, no need for clipping. All you need to do is to be a loyalty member (sign up) and then use either the app or your phone number at checkout.

There's no need to clip coupons. They are ready to go.
The shaking is a shortcut for the QR-code to display on the screen.
