OP back with thanks and an update: we did bring deviled eggs and they were devoured, but I also brought butternut squash tarts as one of you suggested and they were delicious and got raves. Very easy to make ahead at home, leave frozen on a lidded baking sheet then pop in the oven at my sister’s. So good.

Is there a good recipe for the fried butternut squash ravioli?

https://www.simplepartyfood.com/fried-party-ravioli/ You can use purchased butternut ravioli at places like Trader Joe's for this one, I don't think I'd serve a marinara sauce with it, but a vodka sauce might work
https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/appetizers-and-snacks/fried-butternut-squash-ravioli/ Make your own with wanton wrappers

Roasted Butternut squash/avocado/tamarind nachos. Seriously.
You can make fancy and do blue corn chips on a big platter with a little but of everything dropped on each chip. Drizzle with tamarind sauce.

Bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese.
Olive crostini as part of a variety of crostini
Gougeres or mini cheese tarts.

Smokey bacon, olives, and sharper cheeses should all pair well with a sparkling Shiraz.

a really well-composed charcuterie board (look up dazzling pics of them for inspiration). Include fruits like pear and apple slices (dipped in lemon or lime juice to prevent browning). A pate is always a hit in our house.

I make hot artichoke dip w/ bread or chips. You can add spinach too to make it a bit healthier. It's always a hit!

I had a really delicious squash tart at a lunch last week. I was thinking about making mini versions, or just small slices, for an app. It was just roasted butternut squash cubes on pastry dough, so not too rich.

Oooh I already have butternut squash cubes I was planning to make soup with, so I will look into that.

And yes, everyone always eats the deviled eggs!

OP again, as a thank you to everyone for suggesting things here’s the soup I was planning to make with the butternut squash cubes (not for thanksgiving) - it’s super easy and good https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/228638/caramelized-butternut-squash-soup/

I was also going to say baked Brie with apples and crackers

A straightforward spinach artichoke dip (or just plain artichoke dip) is always a good idea; I don’t care if it’s retro, it is delicious and always gone quickly.

Anyone have any great appetizer ideas? I was assigned a bunch of sides plus two apps. My DH is insisting on deviled eggs which I think are not very Thanksgiving-y albeit always delicious, so I’m hoping to wow with something yummy and more seasonally appropriate. Bonus if it goes well with the sparkling Shiraz my sister is planning to serve with the apps. Thanks so much!
