He can use either of our existing cars.

There is no way I am buying a new car for a teen.

An old Accord that is now on its third teen. Each has dinged the bumper at least twice, one did some serious damage (made teen pay to repair). The car is so old that we don't have collision insurance on it. If it gets totaled, they will have no car.

The big question in our house is what happens to it after the third child leaves for college next year. Child number one wants it, child number two is also after it. Child number three knows they're just going off to college and will not have a car right away.

We have not made any decisions.

My first car was a Corolla so this advice is close to my heart. With all of the SUVs on the road, I wonder whether to get a higher profile car for better visibility. But our "youngest" car is 14 years old, so we are looking closely since most of the safety features have been updated a couple times over.

I'm hoping my kid will get my husband's old car if it lasts and we'll get him a really nice one. If not, we'll shop around and see best price/safety and figure it out. I drive a Jeep. I would have no issue to mine driving a sport model but I wouldn't spend that much on a teen given when you start adding all the safety features its really pricy. They can drive mine when I'm in it.

It was several years ago but a 2018 Honda Civic. We figured all 3 of our kids could learn on it so it was it was well worth spending money on new. It’s been a great car but it certainly has taken a beating.

Good for you. My kids will get a car the day he gets his license. I can’t wait until he can drive hills to swim practice and he’ll to drive his siblings around.

My son will likely get my husbands Honda civic.

A ten year old Toyota.

We plan to hold off for 6 months after our daughter gets her license and she also has to earn money towards the purchase of the car. We haven't decided on an amount, but probably $2000 or $2500.

DS got our old minivan that had been totaled in a hailstorm (baseball sized hail, do not recommend) and we bought back from the insurance company for something like $2500 in 2018.
