The primary coats are just like this and very packable. That's our everyday winter coat, plus we have a heavier weight one (that is not as packable) for extra cold days.

We use the Lands End packable puffers. They squish super small and are warm. When it's really cold, a sweatshirt underneath is a good idea. But when it's in the 40s, it's perfect. My kids also like the reversible fuzzy lined ones, but those are not as packable and a bit more hefty.
We have a separate parka for snow or wet weather though.

Same here! We bought the Snozu puffy packable coats every year. And they last, currently using them for kid #2.

We've loved the Patagonia ones for years but I'm wondering if there's anything comparable out there. I am looking for something that's a similar warmth and also weight, since I want to be able to stuff it into a backpack but not sacrifice warmth. These are the ones we've loved, but I'm not finding any in the size we need: https://www.patagonia.com/product/kids-hi-loft-down-sweater-hoody/68645.html
