Ill have to agree with the above posters - my favorites were T&T, Notes on an Execution and Marriage Portrait (that would be my number one). Also agree it wasn’t a stellar year generally. Read quite a bit, not a lot stood out as favorites.

Not “best of,” but these are a few 2022 books I’ve really enjoyed so far:

Counterfeit by Kirsten Chen
Siren Wueen by Nghi Vo
Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn

Also reverse for me. Execution hard to put down; Tomorrow kind of slow, uneventful and blah.

I don’t think any of my favorites this year were published this year, but I’m sharing my list anyway. The fiction books moved me, the nonfiction books all inspired me to make changes in my life that are still lasting:

Fiction:
How the Light Gets In - Louise Penny (I love the entire series so far, but this one - #9 - was so beautiful and satisfying to read. I’m still on a book hangover from this one)

We analyze statistics from the millions of books added, rated, and reviewed on Goodreads to nominate 20 books in each category. Opening round official nominees must have an average rating of 3.50 or higher at the time of launch. A book may be nominated in no more than one genre category, but can also be nominated in the Debut Novel category. Only one book in a series may be nominated per category. An author may receive multiple nominations within a single category if he or she has more than one eligible series or more than one eligible stand-alone book.

Most popular books have over a 3.5 on Good Reads, so that's hardly getting them down to 20 books per category. They are picking based on other factors and aren't saying what they are.

Mostly using Goodreads nominees to help narrow down categories. I can never pick just one best book:

Fiction - Notes on an Execution

Mystery & Thriller - Daisy Darker was a fun, quick read. But I also liked Hidden Pictures a lot, probably more, though it's the horror category. It's definitely not horror in my opinion.

Horror - Just Like Home by Sarah Galley. This is not nominated, but should have been, and is solidly in the horror genre.

Memoir & Auto Biography - I'm Glad My Mom Died - 100% should be the winner

Young Adult Fiction - As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow

Debut Novel - A Flicker in the Dark

The best books of 2022 lists will start appearing soon. What are the best books published in 2022 according to DCUM? Best book I read that was published this year was Notes on an Execution. Best book I read this year, regardless of publication date, was the Final Revival of Opal and Ned. Looking back through my list, I see that I’m usually a couple years “behind.”
