I'm not super woke but the way they taught native Americans was so disturbing to me I'd prefer they not teach it at all. The stuff I heard during zoom school led to a lot of dinner table conversations!

It’s in the USII curriculum, which is either 6th or 7th grade, depending on the district.

I don’t think so (any more). My current APS 8th grader had US History in 6th, civics/Econ in 7th, & now world geography in 8th. I think 9th will be world history.

It's possible first encounter will be via English course. I'm not speaking for APS, but nationwide many teachers assign Diary of Ann Frank in middle school.

Putting US History I in 5th and II in 6th means that in some districts, I will be taught in ES and II in MS.

In the past most districts have chosen whether to do U.S. part 1 in 5th or 6th grade, and then part 2 the following year. I think most school districts in NoVa do it in 6th. But yeah, if they move it 5th for everyone, that would be a huge change.

I teach U.S. part 1 and I was not aware of this draft, so thanks for bringing it to my attention! I'm not a Glen Youngkin fan, so I was dreading what I would find, but actually, based on a skim of my content area, I don't really have a problem with these standards. They are more or less the same as before, with a few additions and deletions. I actually think they are more general in many ways than the current standards are written. Some of the more random facts have been removed in favor of more broader statements that allow the teacher more flexibility, though that was probably not what was intended. Unless I missed something significant, I am fine with teaching this.

The revised social studies standards have come out. The WaPo article, which is uncomplimentary and vague, includes a link to the document and I read the first part of it, the K-6 standards, it seems to make a bit more sense than the current standards but I'm not an educator so there might be a lot that I'm missing.
