Thanks! I think I’ll wait until the baby is at least 9 months to use the different mattress. Dream on me firm seems like the way to go. In the meantime I did contact Graco but haven’t heard back. My baby is quite large for their age, if not, I probably wouldn’t be able to use the pack and play as is because they’d probably fall into the gap that’s currently there between the mattress and pack and play. Baby can probably transition to the crib for night sleep and we can use the pack and plays for naps.

Yes we used one too. Not until the baby was older, more like 9 months+. The thin mattress was too hard as the baby got bigger, and they slept much better once we added the mattress. We used the PnP until 2.5, so we got plenty of use out of the mattress. I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable using it with a very small infant though.

I completely know what you mean by the "bunching" on the pack n play. Are you using the snaps on the corners to secure the mattress? We used the Dream on Me mattress for ours and it was great. It was a very good fit and a firm mattress so I wasn't worried, even though I knew it was technically not recommended.

The bunching in the middle also seems uncomfortable for the baby. We have the baby in the pack and play next to the bed for now and will move into a crib closer to a year. Looks like there are lots of options, wondering if anyone had tried one.

Do you mean that the mattress won’t lie flat at all times or when you have the fitted sheet over it? If it’s when the fitted sheet is on, try cutting some of the elastic at the corners or use a sheet with looser elastic.

Thank. No, it’s act bunched/not fitting properly even without a sheet. We actually have two pack and plays and I noticed both are like this. So, there are gaps between the mattress edges and the pack and play. Also, the the mattress isn’t flat. Really wish we just bought a higher quality pack and play rather than the Gracos.

One more question, do those little Velcro straps help at all? You can also email graco and send photos of the mattress. They will send another one, which might be better.

Did the same and had a similar mattress. It says for not a baby under 9 months. The dc didn't use it until they were 18 months old - but they do sleep well on the mattress and it travels easily. It was about $40.

I think the pack and play mattress maybe isn’t that tight fitting but it’s also really thin so I am thinking that’s part of the safety element. Our bassinet also had a really thin mattress.

OP do what you want just accept the small but unthinkable risks.

Wondering , if you can get a firm, tight fitting mattress how it would be worse/different than a crib.

I agree - I would not use a different mattress. I would contact the maker of your pack and play and see if they can send you a new mattress or I would change to a different sleeping spot.

Idk but I would really hesitate to do a modification if you are using it for a baby for night sleep. For an older child to take naps I would be less worried. Maybe just switch to the crib, or see if you can find a bassinet? People are often giving them away. Little babies don’t need a lot of squish.
