LOL, if someone invited me in a hot tub and I didn’t want to go, I’d just say no. Or I’d come for a drink and to say hello and would leave when it was hot tub time. Are you OK? Do you really not understand that you can decline invitations, or engineer invitations to avoid the parts you don’t want to participate in? How very odd. What a weird post, OP.

I would simply let my friend know that I prefer to not use the hot tub & I would leave it at that.

Ha, we’re the opposite - we have a hot tub and rarely let people use it.

If you’ve ever cleaned one, you know why. You put chemicals in it that make all the shed skin cells clump together in a giant blob and it’s the grossest thing ever. We don’t like swimming in other peoples’ dead skin soup.

I don’t like hot tubs because I overheat easily but I can’t relate to the agita you are experiencing over it.

As someone who has hot tubs at both my homes and loves them, these people are so weird. I would never get in someone else’s hot tub or invite people into mine. Just “forget” your swim suit or decline. You are NOT a stick in the mud.

Just say no if you don’t want to sit in the tub. Why do you assume you’ll be asked to drop your clothes at every party she hosts?

I don't like hot tubs / hot tub people. I'm fine with hot tubs in a spa / gym and as part of a self-care routine, but I don't like people who have hot tubs in their backyard and try to make it part of every social gathering, i.e. Neighborhood Cocktail Party "Ps - bring you swimsuit, the hot tub will be waiting!" No, I do not want to change out of my nice clothes / blow dried hair to sit in a warm germ pool inches away from my 80-year-old neighbors essentially in my underwear. My very good friend just got a hot tub and I am dreading the ensuing social activity. What is proper etiquette here, I oblige the first invitation, since it's to "come see the new hot tub" and then don't bring swimsuit/ change the venue from there? Can I get away with rolling up my pants and going in up to my knees? Over the years, I have found that people with hot tubs are genuinely very excited about them and can't imagine anyone would feel differently. I don't feel any body shame, I just don't think that getting undressed and wet enhances any social event. Am I a stick in the mud?
