But OP is not "approaching" she is turning away from the bus.
She is approaching the intersection with the bus. That is the approach they are talking about. If she is already turned, and the bus pulls up, yes she is free to continue. But if she has not made her turn, she is supposed to wait until the bus stop sign is put away.
Think of the bus stop sign as an ALL WAY red light. Not like a normal stop sign where you can stop, and then roll. It's a red light, no turn on red situation.
