How long should it take for ballots dropped in a MoCo drop box to show up online as Ballot Received? I dropped mine almost a week ago and no change yet.

The worst is register of wills. Why on earth is that an elected position?

I'm a lawyer and I NEVER vote on the judges. If there's a crappy one, I don't want to be the uninformed voter that gets a hack with dementia reappointed to the bench.

PS The Sheriff in MoCo does very little law enforcement. They mostly just guard the courthouse, deliver warrants, and perform evictions, so there's not a lot of discretion involved. MCPD does almost all the law enforcement. It's different in different counties in MD.

But more importantly, why do we vote for so much? How do you find out information on judges or Board of Education members? You can't google it. You can only crowd source. Many of the elected positions should be appointed positions.

The bethesda beat has some Q&As with school board members which found useful but yeah it can be tough. I usually skip the judges.

I always skip the judges too. Why do we vote on them again? Nobody knows anything about them.

Or Sheriff. Do they even have websites? A platform? Shouldn't their platform be to enforce the law?

Of course. A d some do this in punitive biased ways, and others do it in more neutral ways.

The League of Women Voters site includes a link to a forum with people running for Board of Education positions.
And, yes, you CAN Google it, although you might have to take the step of searching for each candidate by name.

As the frenzy over politicizing these positions has increased, I’m more than fine with doing what research I can and voting for these positions. Looking at recent events in Virginia, I realize how easy it is to elect extreme and polarizing people to executive offices, and want to limit their ability to appoint cronies to influential positions— that are often overlooked by voters.

I forgot the exact number, but the judges have to have like 60% of "yes" votes to stay

When you get to the polling place and they ask you paper vs. electronic voting, choose paper. They presented it to me as, oh there's a short line for electronic, if you're in a big hurry you can use the paper ballot, but the short line of like 3 people took a half hour because there were only 2 machines and multiple hiccups. But it was evidently a pain for the workers if someone changes their mind. Just use the paper.

https://www.vote411.org/

Put in your address, and you’ll get personalized info for your ballot. Won’t tell you who to vote for, but gives a pretty concise summary of issues and candidates’ answers to questions.
