I’m not trying to push you to potty train now, but just offering this as food for thought: from what I read about potty training, telling the child they’re ready is part of the process. You talk it up for a bit and tell them that they’re a big boy/girl and their body is ready and that why they’re going to start sitting on the potty.

It probably means he’s showing readiness at daycare and they want the option of letting him use the potty if he says he wants to.

At 3 the signs of readiness is silly. He's 3, he's ready due to his age. This could take a matter of days, just do it.

I’m shocked the daycare actually prefers pull ups. We used to hate those when I worked in childcare. They’re basically just more expensive, more leak-prone diapers.

Pampers 360 is the answer to your problem. Pull down like pull-ups, so daycare will be happy. Work like diapers.

His daycare started last week asking that we send along pull-ups--not because they're delving into potty training him, but she said they want to 'practice readiness'...?

I'm completely fine with sending them, if it's what they want. But my question is, should we be switching him to wearing pull-ups at home as well, so he's in them full time? Is there some kind of benefit?

I'd planned on continuing to use his regular diapers at home, because we have a ton left still that were given to us by a family member that no longer needed them recently. But, are we causing confusing by having DS be in pull-ups at daycare, and diapers at home? WWYD here?

Pull ups are diapers. Use what you have at home.

Pull ups are made to allow the child to feel uncomfortable in wet diapers. Daycare is probably already doing group toileting, so junior will also be asked to sit on the potty when everyone else does. You go back to diapers at night because they have better absorbency, and most people agree that “night training” isn’t really effective.

OP, let daycare help you out and do what they ask. I find it odd that a NT three year old shows no signs of readiness.

I think this is their way of telling you to hurry up. You can ignore them at will of course.

The only thing I’d worry about is that my son started getting bad diaper rashes with pull ups. The pull ups were sagging and rubbing his back. If he’s not going to potty train, I’d personally leave him in diapers.

I kept diapers at home when I sent pull ups to daycare. That worked fine and potty training went fine a few months later. We only switched to pull-ups at home (overnight only) when my kid outgrew easily available diaper sizes.

For kids who are not ready to train, pull ups make little sense. If switching to pull up at this time I would look at the ones with velcro, fastenable sides.

Diapers are fine for training. You can open one tab and lower the diaper for when they are on the potty, then refasten if still clean & dry.

Can someone else potty train him? Presumably with a new baby you won't feel up to potty training him for a few months. When does he turn 4? Older kids can get very stubborn especially with poop.

To answer your question pull ups and diapers are the same thing to a kid. It won't matter what you do at home.

If you're not potty training, then he's just going to use the pull-ups like diapers anyways. I see no reason why you would need to use pullups. Diapers tend to absorb better than pullups anyways.

Has your son expressed an interest in wearing them or undies yet?
