She said it does not appear to be an allergic rash and keep giving the med for now. He has no other symptoms of discomfort. She said to stop if things change after next dose. She also said penicillin allergies are misdiagnosed too quickly and can be inconvenient and costly for the patient. Just sharing this in case of interest.

Same thing happened with my son a few weeks ago and our doctor said the same thing. The rash cleared up after a couple of days and we finished the antibiotics with no other issues.

He has had 3 doses so far and his symptoms are greatly improved but he has a rash on his leg. His skin is pretty sensitive and he gets rashes frequently. We did a food and environmental factors allergy panel 2 months ago and he only has a mild sensitivity to egg whites. However, noone checked for a penicillin allergy of course. I called the pediatrician’s weekend number and awaiting a call but should I stop giving the amoxicilin until i get ab answer from the doctor? I read that most people who think they have a penicilin allergy don’t actually have one once they are tested for it and the rash just happens sometimes. I guess i dont want to risk anything but also dont want to stop a med that is working for his ear pain.
Wwyd?
I would probably call the pharmacist in the meantime to feel better about my choice. My child got a rash at a similar age and the pediatrician wants it listed as an allergy for now. An allergist told me they can't really test for the allergy until 12. I didn't have to stop the meds because the rash came at the end of the course.
That's strange as they tested my child maybe around age 8 with skin tests and then gave them the amoxcillin/one dose and had us wait an hour.
Interesting, I was just told that recently and child is older than 8 but not yet 12. They did all the seasonal/pet/dust allergy testing and that was the response when I asked about penicillin.
