Are you planning on staying in private school or going to public?

If public school, he'll continue to work with a special ed teacher as specified in his IEP (pull out or push in). If staying in private, New York has really different rules then jurisdictions in the DC area, so you won't get good information here.

At age 3 you can get an IEP if you qualify, so I’d go that route. Hire an educational advocate to help you navigate the IEP system. Those laws are federal so they don’t vary by district.

Will he be age eligible for kindergarten? If so, he goes to kindergarten. You'll meet as an IEP team to determine placement (gen ed with support, specialized program) and what goals and services are appropriate.

My 4yo currently attends a pre-k program and has a SEIT work with him for an hour daily to help him transition and focus. I know he will age out of this service next year, but what comes after? I am in NY and know it varies by district, but I’m curious about the transition from nursery to elementary school.
