An old college friend used to take beer glasses from bars, the ones with the name on them. He was young, we were all immature once. But as grown adults, nothing.

Given how restaurants are fleecing customers these days with additional service charges, outrageous markups, and ridiculous tip expectations, what’s wrong with a little reciprocal fleecing now and then???

I stole a menu from a restaurant in my home town as a birthday present for a friend when I was in my 20s. I've also taken extra sauce like the Chik-Fil-A felon and the sugar lady. When I was in my 20s I also stole an ashtray from a truck stop cafe in Nebraska, and walked away from a conference networking hour with a full glass of wine in my hand and did not return the glass to the hotel bar.

But actual things from real restaurants that you'd use at home? I mean, I guess we used the ashtray for a while, but what adult is populating their kitchen with purloined flatware?

I don't, but my MIL will take all kinds of things on principle. Like, just take some jams and straws for later. I once saw her wrap a leftover roll in a cloth napkin and put it in her purse.

I had a neighbor who would steal the fancy cloth napkins. She was like, "You can't just buy these!" I thought she was pretty nuts.

A demitasse spoon from a cafe in Frankfurt. Sadly I have lost it in the past 20 years since I did it.

Chick-Fil-a sauce like a felon.

the only thing I ever take more than I need is the good "natural" sugar. Just a couple packs in case the next place only has the pink package carcinogens.

Man that’s disgusting. I know I may not be the most honorable person out there but seriously OP? Even I wouldn’t dream of this and that’s saying a lot.

Accidentally walked out of a Pizza Hut with one of those old bumpy red clear plastic tumblers as a preteen. Realized it, was mortified, and ran back in to return it.

That's all I got.

OP: Find new friends. I doubt that this practice is common.

I was SHOCKED the first time I went out to eat with a friend and she liked a spoon and took it. She also took toilet rolls, and basically anything she liked including shot glasses. I stopped going out to eat with her. It had never occurred to me to take something like that. As I've moved through my 30's more and more people have stolen from restaurants right in front of me. Once I went out with a potential employee and he pocketed a ramekin saying his girlfriend would find it cute and winked at me.

Do you steal from restaurants? What do you take? Do you really use it at home?
