If she calls the company that she has her Medicare Part D plan with, they can give her a list of meds, alternatives for the expensive meds she is on. My mom has Parkinson's and her meds were initially about $1,300/month and her social security is $2,400/month for the prescription costs were not feasible. I called the company that her Part D plan was with, they sent her a list with a list of alternatives for the 3 meds that were most expensive. Her doctor agreed to switch two of those meds to the cheaper ones. That made a big difference in cost and no difference in therapeutic effect.

Coupons can't be used with Medicare. I would try to switch Medicare Part D plans.

What are the meds?

Diabetic in my family and we greatly benefit from manufacturer coupons, but I am not sure how these work with Medicare.

Does she have Medicare Part D?

Look at her Medicare options, it is open enrollment.

Have you looked at the drug manufacturer’s website? Sometimes they offer their own discount code that you can provide the pharmacy - I did this with NuvaRing and Cambia when they came out and my ex did it with his IBS meds.

I'm trying to help my MIL find cheaper prescription cost. She lives off her monthly Social Security (around $2,000) and has about $20,000 in assets. Her prescriptions are costing her hundreds of dollars per month. We have looked up the different ones she is on on CostPlus, GoodRx, ect but they are mostly name brands that do not offer a generic. I just found Extra Help but her income limits are right above the cap. She has also asked her doctors for generic options but they have said they don't have any good ones for what she needs.

Are there other places we can look or ways to lower her prescription cost?
