Subject: Need help finding testing for 16 yr old DD (dyslexia & ADHD); Psychiatrist too
Mindwell was good for our daughter. The testing was very comprehensive and the recommendations were what we need.
Short term- get her the audio book. Our profoundly dyslexic high schooler keeps up with English and other classes by listening to the assigned novels.

I would look at some of the independent practitioners.
Shawn MacDonald PHD has a focus in Dyslexia
Laurie Ness PhD is in Silver Spring
People seem to get in quicker with Wake-Kendall group but their prices can be high.

We’ve used Dr. Daisy Pascualvaca. She seems to have openings available much earlier than most and she and her team are great.

So COVID as not been good to us, especially to DD who is really struggling now.
She was tested in middle school and came back with some sort of higher language receptive issues – but that was it. Totally vague. So we worked with her and self-advocating for what she needed and that work fairly well through middle school and the COVID era. But now she is having lots of difficulty in history and English (doing fine in precalc). Her english teacher noted that sometimes it seems as if she isn't even fully comprehending things.
Please send any recommendations (even of places/people to avoid). I do have appointments for her at the Chesapeake Center -- but not until February.
Plus, all this has taken a toll on her mental health. We have been working with a therapist for nearly a year, but she has recommended an evaluation by a psychiatrist with experience treating adolescents -- all the referrals I have so far are not taking new patients.
Guidance, recommendations, suggestions, even relevant stray thoughts would be very much appreciated!
